Ice Tea Group holds developers workshop with the Porting Factory team

 

Washington, DC - March 18, 2008 - Over 20 developers and managers from fecher’s Porting Factory organization attended a two-day technical workshop held by Ice Tea Group and fecher in Germany. The Porting Factory team is fully dedicated to the execution of migration projects for the conversion of applications based on Gupta technologies to the modern Microsoft .NET architecture.

During the two days at the workshop, the developers reviewed together completed projects as well as current and scheduled projects in order to identify and isolate problems more efficiently, to adopt common solutions to known issues, and to improve the overall migration process and technology for future projects.

Ice Tea Group gave an overview of future extensions and new implementation to the Ice Porter™ tool and the PPJ Framework™ compatibility library, as well as additional new components being developed such as the migration of Gupta Report Builder reports to List & Labels.

The Porting Factory team together with Ice Tea Group explored various potential additions to the migration solution that are now on the drawing board, such as the automatic instrumentation of customers’ applications, the migration of reports to Sql Server Reporting Services, integration of the iCustomizer (a runtime form editor component developed by nGroup).

The workshop was unanimously considered a success and will become a regular event hosted by fecher and Ice Tea Group. We are also looking into making it an open event and possibly include it in the worldwide tour of the Porting Project that is currently being organized.
